Cancer, heart disease, type 1 diabetes, and asthma; these four types of diseases have refused to go away and have become a normal part of life, affecting millions of people all over the world.
Asthma is an immune mediated disease that occurs as a result of the immune system overreacting to an allergen, such as animal dander or dust, which in most people is typically harmless.
Cancer is a representative of slightly over 200 various kinds of malignant diseases that are caused by the destructive and uncontrolled growth of cells. If unregulated, cancer cells may develop into tumors, attack nearby body parts and spread all over the body.
Type 1 diabetes is another serious disease that continues to claim millions of lives every year in the world, the US included. It’s an autoimmune disease that attacks the beta cells responsible for making insulin in the pancreas.
Finally on this list is heart disease, which encompasses various diseases of the blood vessels and heart, such as angina pectoris (discomfort or chest pain as a result of reduced supply of blood to the muscles of the heart), high blood pressure, stroke, heart failure and heart attacks.
Medical experts are working hard each day with the hope of wiping out these diseases from the face of earth. We can only continue to believe that their efforts will be fruitful someday.
